Martha, the Last Passenger Pigeon, Dies

September 1, 1914

Martha, the last known passenger pigeon, dies at the Cincinnati Zoo. Although an attempt was made in 1857 to protect the pigeons, the Ohio state senate decided the bird wasn’t threatened. Their numbers faded until they were eventually hunted to extinction.

  1. Wonderful concept! I like how you implied that the bird is “fading” by putting the little dots on the outline like that. Very creative!
