Anne Boleyn, second wife of Henry VIII, the king of England, is beheaded by sword (a weapon considered better suited for a queen than a common axe). She has been charged and found guilty of adultery, treason, and incest by Thomas Cromwell, chief minister to the king. She dies a single woman, her marriage to Henry VIII having been annulled two days earlier.
