The 17th century German mathematician and astronomer Johannes Kepler calculates the date of the universe’s creation to beĀ April 27, 4977 B.C. Though these calculations are off by about 13.7 billion years, Kepler will be remembered for another body of work. Kepler’s theories explaining planetary motion become the basis for Isaac Newton’s theory of universal gravitation.
